Medical LED light by a medical clinic

LED light therapy is a revolutionary non-invasive treatment that repairs, rejuvenates and revitalises the skin.

Our LED light skin therapy is the gold standard and latest generation in light therapy - we believe more advance than some of the industry's most popular devices e.g. Dermalux. Although LED light can be used alone for impressive results, we incorporate this treatment into our unique Ultrasound Facial, offering our patients enhanced results without added cost.

LED light therapy uses specific colour wavelengths to penetrate the skin at varying depths – the light emitted works to create enough energy in each targeted skin cell to encourage collagen production, improve elasticity and increase blood circulation, improve imbalance, skin tone and oxygen flow while releasing toxins.

The wavelengths used in LED light therapy range across the visible and invisible spectrum and penetrate the skin at different depths to help with multiple concerns. LED wavelengths have a bio stimulatory action on the cells and so can be used to effectively rebalance cellular imbalances and promote the skin's natural rejuvenation process.

All skin types and age groups can benefit from LED light therapy as the low-level light energy does not burn or irritate the skin. LED light skin therapy offers our patients a pain-free method of achieving flawless, youthful and healthy skin.

LED light skin therapy FAQ

What is LED light skin therapy?

LED therapy has grown in popularity in the past few years. It promises to fight acne and signs of aging with the use of light technology.

LED means light-emitting diode. It works by emitting infrared lights (causing heat) in different wavelengths/spectrums, which have different skincare benefits. It is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses narrow-band, non-thermal LED light energy to trigger your body’s natural cell processes to accelerate rejuvenation and repair of the skin.

Specific wavelengths of light will target different depths of skin according to your condition. The light kills bacteria, stimulates collagen production and cell regeneration, resulting in improvement in skin tone, texture and clarity.

Do I need a consultation before the treatment?

This is not necessary at all. LED light skin therapy is a medical-grade, state-of-the-art machine. It is very safe and the treatment will be carried out by our clinical skin therapist (see below), who has been trained to the highest standard by Dr Bong.

Before the treatment, Caroline will analyse your issues, examine your face and discuss what the procedure entails. Please watch our videos to familiarise yourself with the treatment before you make an appointment.

Who will carry out the procedure on me?

Our clinical skin therapist

The procedure

LED Procedure

Our exclusive treatment protocol incorporates this treatment into our Ultrasound Facial for no added cost. This treatment is carried out towards the very end of your Ultrasound Facial.

During treatment, goggles and eye protectors must be worn to protect your eyes, as the light is fairly bright. The LEDs themselves are set in a grid and suspended on an arm a short distance from your face for the duration of the treatment. Compact and quiet (the noise has been likened to that of a small electric fan), the equipment is unlikely to distract you as you relax and let the rays do their job. It takes only 10 minutes to complete the treatment.

Will I feel any pain or side effect?

No. You should feel no discomfort or pain and suffer no side effects. However, this treatment may not be suitable for anyone who can feel claustrophobic.

What can I expect during and after my treatment?

Having LED light skin therapy is a relaxing and pain free experience. You will feel very mild sensation of heat on the surface of your skin during the treatment. You will leave the clinic with your face feeling smooth and supple. This is a ‘no downtime’ treatment, so you can expect to get on with normal activities right away. In some cases, localised redness may occur, but this will subside very quickly, leaving behind beautifully clear skin.

Can you get a tan from LED light skin therapy?

Not at all. LED light therapy does not use UV light so there is no risk of tanning.

Does LED light skin therapy hurt?

Not at all. This treatment is completely non-invasive and does not hurt. All you will feel is a tiny bit of warmth.

What skin types should try LED light skin therapy?

It is good for all skin types.

Is LED light skin therapy for me?

LED light skin therapy can benefit anyone who wants to treat scars, fight acne, reduce wrinkles or just generally make their skin look younger and healthier.

Its ability to increase regeneration of connective tissue, soften the appearance of sunspots and improve lymphatic system function and circulation means it has the potential to help improve the appearance of the skin.

Who should avoid having LED light skin therapy?

Those whose skin is prone to photosensitivity may want to avoid LED light therapy, just in case the exposure triggers a reaction. Similarly, those who suffer from epilepsy or porphyria may want to avoid this treatment. Some medications such as Doxycycline (antibiotic) may cause photosensitivity. We recommend that you should not have this treatment until a minimum period of 4 weeks after stopping this medication have passed.

What is the downtime after a treatment?

One of the best things about this treatment is that there is no downtime. You can go right back to what you were doing right before the LED light skin therapy. The only difference is that your skin will look and feel great!

What areas can be treated?

We offer treatment on the just the face.

How long does the treatment take?

This treatment is carried out towards the end of your Ultrasound Facial treatment. It should take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

I have sensitive skin. Can I still have the LED light skin therapy?

The short answer is “yes,” but you need to have the treatment performed by a highly-skilled skin therapist, under the supervision of a cosmetic doctor. This is not a “cookbook” procedure, where the same steps are done on every person. Our clinical skin therapist is very skilled – having been trained personally by Dr Bong – and has many years of experience.

Can LED light skin therapy reduce acne?

Yes! It is a great way to kill the bacteria which are responsible for causing acne. It is a fantastic treatment to regulate the sebum production. LED light skin therapy has been clinically proven to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce and control acne.

Does LED light skin therapy damage the skin?

Studies have shown that LED light therapy has no side effect and risks to the skin. Unlike high-powered laser machines, this technology will not burn your skin, will not cause redness and inflammation, and the heat is almost unfelt during treatment.

Short and long term benefits of LED light skin therapy?

Short term - clearer, brighter and tighter skin; eliminate acne-causing bacteria

Long term – improved skin clarity, texture and tone and reduction of wrinkles. Firmer and tighter skin

Does it matter where I get the LED light skin therapy?

Just as with peels, laser treatments, dermal fillers, and other medical grade skin treatments, a LED phototherapy machine needs to be used properly to produce a good result. The person carrying out your treatment is as important as the technology, if not more so. At Essence Medical Cosmetic Skin Clinic, we offer our patients a highly-skilled aesthetics team that is guided by Dr Kieren Bong, one of the most respected and renowned cosmetic doctors in Europe.

The LED light skin therapy at Essence Medical is special in that the technique and treatment protocol are all unique to our clinic. You will not find another clinic with the same treatment regime as all of the above have been exclusively formulated by Dr Bong.

How does your LED light skin therapy compare with at home face-shaped LED mask?

LED mask not as effective

The awareness and demand for LED light therapy has seen a significant increase and today there are many different applications ranging from professional in-clinic systems through to hand held and home use devices.

LEDs mounted in a face-shaped mask are becoming increasingly popular most probably due to the low investment and portability of the systems. However, the continued popularity of clinic-based LED system as a results-driven, non-invasive treatment choice is primarily due to the clinical efficacy, quality and safety profile that these systems provide.

Ultrasound Facial Procedure

CLINICALLY PROVEN RESULTS

Our LED in-clinic system combines Blue 415nm, Red 633nm and Near Infrared 830nm which are the most internationally recognised and clinically evidenced wavelengths for LED light skin therapy.

Our state-of-the-art LED in-clinic system has pre-set treatment programmes for a range of skin specific conditions, combination treatments and post treatment protocols. Each pre-set programme delivers a specific combination of wavelengths at an optimised dose targeted to the individual skin condition. Delivering concurrent wavelength treatments is proven to increase efficacy and accelerates results.

.

LEADING TECHNOLOGY

Our LED machine uses the latest generation Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology to deliver precise technical parameters in a targeted and focused configuration to ensure optimum absorption of light within the skin. Delivering focused light energy is the key to achieving the best results with LED light skin therapy.

Our LED machine has been uniquely designed for optimum power, stability and longevity to ensure the most accurate and efficient LED system on the market.

.

HIGH SAFETY PROFILE

Due to the non-thermal and non-traumatic nature of LED light skin therapy, LED light skin therapy is a safe, year-round treatment which is beneficial for all skin types and skin conditions.

Many traditional aesthetic procedures work on the principle of creating 'controlled trauma' to trigger change in the skin however, these treatments also carry a higher risk of adverse response, down time and level of discomfort.

LED light skin therapy does not pass the cell damage threshold as with laser treatment for example so there is no risk of burning or creating a response that would be irreversible. The risk of a photosensitive reaction is minimal and would only be transient.

What types of LED light do you offer and what do they do?

Blue light skin therapy in Glasgow

BLUE Light

The blue light therapy is an LED therapy specifically for the treatment of acne and acne scarring and is a clinically proven light therapy.

The blue light helps to kill the acne causing bacteria, which is known as Propionibacterium or P. acnes for short. This bacterium is known to cause inflammation, but due to its sensitivity to blue light the bacteria which is normally found in the oil gland in the skin can be treated. Its powerful antibacterial properties allows it to treat acne without irritation, reduce oil production, and prevent future breakout.

Blue light skin therapy in Glasgow

RED Light

This increases natural hydration levels, reduced redness and inflammation, shrinks the appearance of pores, regulates oil production and accelerates skin repair. It is a very effective anti-ageing treatment because of its collagen and elastin boosting properties. In the short term, it gives you a clearer, brighter and firmer skin. In the long term, it reduces fine lines and wrinkles, plumps and hydrates the skin and promotes firming and tightening effect on your skin.

- Skin rejuvenation

- Increased collagen and elastin production

- Fading of freckles, skin spots and age spots

- Soften fine lines and wrinkles

- Firm and tighten sagging skin

- Soften appearance of acne scars

Benefits of RED light skin therapy?

Red light skin therapy in Glasgow

Visible red LED light therapy is a gentle and effective way to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The heat and light boost blood circulation, bringing more blood and nutrients to your skin. This technology offers your skin a plumping effect, along with skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and toned, radiant skin. During the treatment, you will simply lie underneath a light screen while the device does all the work.

RED light skin therapy vs laser therapy?

Red light skin therapy is low-level laser therapy (cold laser). It is a milder, risk-free treatment that will not burn, cut, peel or hurt your skin as with laser treatments. Therefore, red light skin therapy will not cause skin inflammation or persistent redness after treatments. However, just because red light therapy is non-invasive and gentle, does not mean that it can’t produce the same results as a high-power laser.

RED light skin therapy for acne scars?

Using blue light therapy to treat your active acne prevents scar tissue from forming in the first place. However, even if you already have scars from acne, red light therapy can help fade them. As new collagen is formed, the pockmark often left by severe cases of acne even out, and this reduces the appearance of acne scarring.

How much does it cost?

We offer this amazing treatment to our patients at no extra cost as part of their Ultrasound Facial treatment. Most clinics charge an additional £50 for an LED light therapy on top of other treatments.

You will pay only £99 per treatment and this price entitles you to the following:

1. 30 minutes of Ultrasound Facial which combines five different technologies: Aqua Peeling; Cyclone Extraction; Ion Lifting; Multipolar Radiofrequency; and Ultrasound

2. 15 minutes of LED light skin therapy

3. 10 minutes of forearm and hand massage
